CANNA Coco Coarse – Airy Peat-Free Coco for Monstera & Aroids

CANNA Coco Coarse is fully buffered, with a light starter charge (EC 1.0) that gives young plants a small nutrient reserve. It's not a long-term food source, so feed with a coco nutrient from the very first watering.

No Pebbles. No Perlite. No Problem.

Most airy coco mixes rely on clay pebbles or perlite to stay open, and those take up space where roots could be growing. CANNA Coco Coarse gets the same open, free-draining structure on its own, using carefully selected larger-grade coco fibres with fewer fine particles plus a proportion of rice husk. The result holds far more air than standard coco, drains quickly, and makes the whole pot available to the roots.

Why It Works

• Maximum air at the roots: an open, highly aerated structure protects against soggy roots and root rot.
• Fast drainage: excess water clears quickly, so pots never sit waterlogged.
• More root room: no inert pebbles or perlite taking up space, so all of the substrate is usable by the roots.

• Natural silica: the rice husk slowly releases naturally occurring silica, which helps build stronger plants.

Chunky, airy, free-draining coco is exactly what Monstera, Alocasia, Anthurium and climbing Philodendron want. These plants grow up trees in the wild, and their roots need air as much as water. CANNA Coco Coarse gives you that chunky aroid structure in a single bag, with no pebbles to mix in. It's also a great pick for anyone who tends to overwater.

Prefer a mix with clay pebbles? Our LECA & Coco 60/40 mixes do a similar job. Growing moisture-lovers like Calathea or ferns? A finer 70/30 coco and perlite mix will hold water more evenly for them.

For Growers

Developed for growers who like the drainage and irrigation behaviour of pebble or perlite coco blends, CANNA Coco Coarse suits hand watering, drip irrigation, ebb and flow, and automatic gravity-fed systems. Irrigation frequency and dosing stay much the same as with a pebble or perlite blend, so there's little or nothing to change in your schedule. In CANNA's own trials it outperformed the other pebble and perlite coco blends tested, particularly in wetter systems.

• Minimal run-off: feed with CANNA Coco A&B. You'll get 10% off when you buy the two together.
• Higher run-off (10%+), such as small pots with several irrigations a day: CANNA recommend COGr Vega and Flores.
• pH: adjust your feed to 5.5–6.2, ideally around 6.0.
