Jiffy-7C 30mm Coco Coir Plugs – The Tidiest Way to Start Seeds and Cuttings

Every gardener knows the seed-sowing routine: a bag of compost split across the shed floor, trays that dry out on the edges and stay soggy in the middle, and seedlings whose roots tear when you prick them out. The Jiffy-7C does away with all of it. Each one starts as a flat 30mm disc of compressed coco coir. Add water, and a few minutes later it has swelled into a firm, airy little plug, ready for a seed or a cutting.

When roots appear through the net, you plant the whole plug, roots and all. There's nothing to tease apart and nothing to tear, so young plants carry on growing instead of sulking after the move.

Why They Work

  • 100% peat-free: made from coconut coir, a renewable by-product, rather than peat.
  • The right balance of air and water: coco holds moisture without going waterlogged, so roots get the oxygen they need to grow fast.
  • Buffered and clean: washed and buffered to a neutral pH, so young roots aren't stressed.
  • Neat 30mm size: ideal for small seeds and soft cuttings, and it packs tightly into propagation trays.
  • PLA netting: a plant-based net holds the plug together while roots grow straight through it.
  • Minimal transplant shock: the whole plug goes into the pot, so the roots are never disturbed.

Perfect For

  • Houseplant cuttings: Pothos, Philodendron, Tradescantia, Hoya, Begonia and more
  • Herbs and microgreens: basil, coriander, parsley, salad leaves
  • Veg starts: tomatoes, chillies, peppers, brassicas and lettuce
  • Bedding plants and flowers
  • Schools, allotments and community gardens, where tidy and simple matters
  • Growers: seedlings and cuttings in propagators and cloners

How to Use

  1. Stand the dry discs in a tray with the small hole facing up.
  2. Pour over lukewarm water and leave them to expand fully, which takes a few minutes.
  3. Tip away any excess water, and gently squeeze each plug so it isn't sodden. Plugs that can breathe root faster.
  4. Sow one or two seeds in the hole, or push a cutting in.
  5. Keep warm and humid in a propagator, and water from below when the plugs start to feel light.
  6. Once roots show through the net, plant the whole plug into its pot, bed or system.

Feeding

Seeds carry their own food for the first days. Once the first true leaves appear, or a cutting has started to root, begin a gentle, diluted feed. A quarter-strength propagation or grow feed is plenty for plants this young.

🌿 Rose's Pro-Tip: the commonest mistake with plugs is keeping them too wet. Let each one lighten a little between waterings. A slightly drier plug pushes roots out searching for water, and that's exactly what you want.

Which Pack?

  • 10 or 50: a windowsill tray or a single propagator
  • 100 or 250: a full season of seed sowing for keen gardeners and allotments
  • 500 or a full box of 1,536: nurseries, schools and serious growers, with the best value per plug
