CANNA Coco Pro Plus – Ready-to-Use Peat-Free Coco Coir

Size

The easiest way to switch to peat-free, and the coco professional growers have trusted for decades.

CANNA Coco Professional Plus is the world's best-known coco coir, made from the crushed husks of coconuts. It's washed, buffered and ready to go straight from the bag, with no soaking, rinsing or prep. Just open it, fluff it up and pot. The same bag goes into a Calathea on a windowsill, a tomato in a greenhouse and a commercial grow room, and it behaves the same in all three.

Type: Unfertilised. It contains no plant food, so there's no risk of fertiliser burn on sensitive roots, and you have total control of feeding. Just start your usual liquid feed from the first watering.

Why People Love It

  • Holds moisture evenly: it soaks up water like a sponge and releases it slowly, so thirsty plants don't dry out between waterings.
  • Clean and fresh: no mouldy compost smell, no bits of bark, and it's far less appealing to fungus gnats than peat-based compost.
  • Peat-free: made from a renewable by-product of the coconut industry.
  • Ready to use: fully buffered and pre-washed, unlike raw coco bricks that need soaking and rinsing first.
  • Consistent every time: RHP certified, the strictest quality standard for growing media, so every bag behaves the same.
  • Reusable: it keeps its structure for a long time, and makes a great soil improver when you're done with it.

Perfect For

  • Moisture-lovers: Calathea, Maranta and other prayer plants, ferns, Fittonia and peace lilies
  • Easy-going houseplants: Pothos, heartleaf Philodendron, Peperomia and Spider Plants
  • Seedlings and cuttings: a clean, gentle start for young roots
  • Fruit, veg and herbs: tomatoes, chillies, peppers, strawberries and herbs in pots, grow bags and greenhouse containers
  • Growers and hydroponics: hand-watered pots, drip irrigation, run-to-waste and flood-and-drain systems
  • Your own custom mixes: see the recipes below

Build Your Own Mix

Pure coco is the perfect base for DIY potting mixes. These are three easy starting points:

  • Everyday houseplant mix: 7 parts Pro Plus to 3 parts perlite
  • Chunky aroid mix: 6 parts Pro Plus to 4 parts LECA clay pebbles
  • Cactus and succulent mix: 4 parts Pro Plus, 3 parts perlite and 3 parts grit

For Growers

Coco Professional Plus is CANNA's flagship coco and one of the most widely used substrates in professional growing. It's buffered so it won't lock up calcium and magnesium from your feed, and it gives an excellent balance of water and air for fast, vigorous root development. Feed with CANNA Coco A&B, formulated specifically for it, at a pH of around 5.5–6.2. It works with hand watering and automated irrigation alike, and can be reused for further crops after a clean-up with Cannazym.

Which CANNA Coco Is Right for You?

  • Coco Pro Plus (this one): the best all-rounder. Holds moisture well and is ready to use.
  • Coco Natural: more lightly buffered, for experienced growers and DIY mixers who like to fine-tune their own feeding.
  • Coco Coarse: extra airy and fast-draining. Choose this one for Monstera, Alocasia and Anthurium, wetter irrigation systems, or if you tend to overwater.

How to Use

  1. Fluff it up: break up any lumps from the bag with your hands.
  2. Pot up: fill your pot, firm gently around the roots and water through until it drains.
  3. Feed regularly: it contains no plant food, so use a liquid feed with most waterings. CANNA Coco A&B is made for it. For houseplants, half strength is usually plenty.
  4. Water by feel: coco dries from the top down, so push a finger in and water when the top couple of centimetres feel dry.

Rose's Pro-Tip

Coco looks dry on top long before it's dry underneath, which catches a lot of people out. Lift the pot instead: a light pot means it's time to water, a heavy one means wait. You'll never overwater again.

Which Size?

  • Sample: try it before you commit
  • 1L: one small plant, seedlings or cuttings
  • 5L: a few small plants, or one 15–20cm pot
  • 10L: several houseplants or a herb planter
  • 20L: a full collection repot, large planters or a couple of grow-bag-sized pots
  • 50L and 50L × 2: the best value, for big collections, gardens, greenhouses and grow rooms

Please note: Sample to 20L sizes are carefully decanted from fresh, genuine CANNA 50L bags into secure packaging. 50L comes in the original sealed bag.
