Here is an uncomfortable truth about lighting: a surprising share of what you pay for never reaches a leaf. It lands on a grey wall, a bare floorboard or a ceiling joist, and quietly turns into nothing. The cheapest upgrade most growing spaces will ever get is not a brighter lamp – it is a whiter wall.

Visqueen Black/White Sheeting is that wall. One side is a bright white coating that bounces stray light back towards your plants; the other is solid black, so light from outside stays outside – and light from inside stays in. Two jobs, one film, no paint.

Why Visqueen?

Visqueen has spent decades making polythene for building sites and farms – the kind of places where sheeting gets walked on, dragged, stapled and rained on, and is expected to survive. At 120 microns this roll is noticeably heavier than the thin budget film that tears the first time you staple it, which is precisely the point: you only want to line a room once.

The Economics (Because Someone Should Mention Them)

That is enough to line the walls and floor of several rooms, a whole garage conversion, or a commercial propagation area – and it works out at roughly a pound per square metre. Rose's Pro-Tip

White side faces your plants, always. When lining walls, overlap each seam by 5–10cm and tape it, so there are no slivers of bare wall reflecting nothing. On floors, run the sheet a little way up the skirting – it turns a spill into a wipe rather than a stain. And leave a touch of slack rather than pulling it drum-tight: polythene that is fitted under tension is polythene that splits at the staples.
