CANNA Terra Professional – Calathea & Fern Potting Soil
CANNA Terra Professional – The Gentle Potting Mix for Fine-Rooted Plants
Calatheas have a reputation for being dramatic, but most of their drama is a root problem. Their fine, delicate roots burn easily in rich compost and drown easily in dense compost, which leaves them in a very narrow band of "just right". CANNA Terra Professional is built for that band. It's a light, airy blend of quality peat and perlite with only a gentle starter feed, enough to help newly potted plants settle without scorching delicate roots.
Perfect For
- Calathea and prayer plants: Goeppertia, Maranta, Stromanthe and Ctenanthe
- Jewel Alocasias: Polly, Black Velvet and other small, fine-rooted types
- Begonias: Rex, Maculata and cane Begonias
- Ferns and Peace Lilies: Boston fern, Maidenhair and Spathiphyllum
- Patio and greenhouse edibles: chillies, peppers, tomatoes and herbs
- Growers: a high-performance alternative to standard light-mix soils, built to pair with CANNA Terra Vega and Terra Flores for full control of your feeding
Key Benefits
- Airy blend of quality peat and perlite: drains well and resists compaction
- Gentle starter feed for roughly the first 10–14 days, with low risk of root burn
- Buffered to around pH 6.0 for good nutrient uptake
- Leaves you in control of feeding once the starter charge is used up
Terra Professional or Pro Plus?
Standard Terra Professional (this one) is gentler and suits smaller, fine-rooted plants and growers who want to take over feeding early. For big statement plants such as fiddle leaf figs, palms and mature Alocasia, Terra Professional Plus has the richer, longer-lasting 2–4 week feed and bark structure those larger root systems want.
How to Use
Fill the pot, firm lightly and water through. After about two weeks, start feeding with CANNA Terra Vega, then switch to Terra Flores for anything flowering or fruiting.
⚠️ Grower Note: for unrooted cuttings and fresh seeds, start them in a dedicated seed compost and pot on into Terra Professional once rooted.
🌿 Rose's Pro-Tip: Calatheas hate hard tap water as much as they hate rich compost. If their leaf edges keep crisping in the right soil, try rainwater or filtered water.
