Jiffy-7C Coco Pellets 50 × 60mm – Room to Grow Before You Pot On

Small plugs are perfect for tiny seeds. But give a bean, a squash or a chunky cutting a 30mm plug and it will run out of room within days, forcing an early move it isn't ready for. The Jiffy-7C 50 × 60mm is the big brother of the range. Each one arrives as a flat, compressed disc of coco coir. Add water and it swells into a sturdy pellet 50mm wide and 60mm tall, with plenty of depth for a proper root system to develop before you ever have to touch it.

When the roots show through the net, the whole pellet goes into its pot or bed. Nothing is pulled apart and nothing is torn, so young plants carry on growing instead of sulking.

Why They Work

  • 100% peat-free: RHP-certified coco coir, made at Jiffy's own plant in Sri Lanka from a by-product of the coconut industry.
  • Pre-fertilised: a starter fertiliser is built in, giving seedlings and cuttings a strong first few weeks.
  • The right pH: washed and buffered to around pH 5.2 (±0.5), ideal for young roots.
  • Air-pruned roots: roots that reach the edge of the pellet are naturally pruned by the air, so the plant builds a dense, fibrous root ball instead of circling roots.
  • Well-aerated and fast-draining: coco holds moisture without going waterlogged, so roots get the oxygen they need.
  • Minimal transplant shock: the pellet goes into the pot whole, so roots are never disturbed.

Perfect For

  • Big seeds: beans, peas, squash, courgettes, pumpkins, sweetcorn and cucumbers
  • Tomatoes, chillies and peppers that you want to grow on a little longer before potting up
  • Larger cuttings: Monstera nodes, fig, hydrangea, roses and shrub cuttings
  • Tree and shrub seedlings
  • Growers: cuttings and seedlings that need a bigger root zone before transplanting

How to Use

  1. Stand the dry discs in a tray with the small hole facing up.
  2. Pour over lukewarm water and leave them to expand fully to 60mm tall.
  3. Tip away the excess water, and gently squeeze each pellet so it isn't sodden.
  4. Sow your seed, or push your cutting into the hole.
  5. Keep warm and humid, and water from below whenever the pellets feel light.
  6. Once roots show through the net, plant the whole pellet into its pot, bed or system.

🌿 Rose's Pro-Tip: because these pellets come pre-fertilised, hold off feeding for the first couple of weeks. Once roots are poking through the net, start a gentle, diluted feed.
