Brand names cost money. Carbon is what kills the smell. A good share of what you pay for a big-name filter is the name. Fox is built the other way round: the same kind of Australian activated carbon the premium brands use, machine-packed into a 38mm bed, in a no-nonsense metal body at a price that doesn't make you wince. Your neighbours won't know what's on the label. They just won't smell anything.

What you get

  • Australian activated carbon. Highly porous carbon with a huge internal surface area for odour molecules to stick to.
  • 38mm carbon bed, machine-packed. Tight packing means the carbon doesn't settle and leave gaps, so air can't sneak round it.
  • Coned internal base. It spreads airflow evenly across the carbon instead of letting it rush through one spot.
  • Black powder-coated spigot and base with a perforated steel body.
  • Protective pre-filter sleeve included. It catches dust before it can clog the carbon.

Which one is yours?

Size Neck × body Max airflow Best for
4" 100 × 300mm 350 m³/h Small tents, cupboards, mushroom and herb chambers
6" 150 × 300mm 600 m³/h 80cm–1m tents, the classic 6" setup
6" 150 × 500mm 800 m³/h 1–1.2m tents and stronger 6" fans
8" 200 × 1000mm 1,500 m³/h Large tents and rooms on a powerful 8" fan
10" 250 × 1000mm 1,900 m³/h Grow rooms on 10" ducting
12" 315 × 500mm See label 12" systems with limited headroom

Spare quick-release ducting clips

Also on this listing: quick-release ducting clips in 5", 8" and 12" for fixing ducting to a filter neck or fan. They tighten and release by hand, with no screwdriver needed.

Not just for growers

  • Grow tents for herbs, chillies, tomatoes and flowering houseplants
  • Mushroom fruiting chambers, which have a surprisingly earthy aroma
  • Drying rooms, fermentation and home-brew corners
  • Hobby rooms with paint, glue or resin smells (for odour only; a carbon filter is no substitute for proper fume extraction or a respirator)

Rose's Pro-Tip

"A budget filter rewards good habits more than a premium one does. Keep the sleeve clean, keep humidity under about 80%, and pick a filter rated a little above your fan rather than right on it. Do that and a Fox will run happily for well over a year."

How to match a filter to your fan

Start with the duct diameter. It's simplest when fan, filter and ducting all share one size. If they differ, pick a filter slightly bigger than the fan, never smaller. Ducting and the filter both add resistance, so your fan will move less air than its free-flow rating suggests. Choose a filter rated about 20% above your fan's free-flow figure.

FAQ

How long does a Fox filter last?
Typically 9–18 months, depending on humidity, dust and how hard it's worked.

Does it need a fan?
Yes. A carbon filter is passive, so it needs an inline fan of the same (or slightly smaller) duct size to pull air through it.
