AC Infinity Carbon Filters – 4" to 12" Standard, XL & Refillable
Most people buy a carbon filter for the day they install it. They should buy it for month six. On day one every filter works, because fresh carbon is a sponge with nothing in it yet. The question is what happens once dust, humidity and a few thousand hours of airflow have had their say. That's where AC Infinity earns its place, with premium Australian carbon, a deep 38mm bed and a washable pre-filter that keeps the carbon working long after cheaper filters have given up.
This listing carries the complete AC Infinity carbon range: Standard filters in every size from 4" to 12", the extra-long XL versions, the Refillable kits, plus the spare pre-filter cloths and carbon refills that keep them going. Most shops sell you the filter and leave you to find the consumables yourself. Here, everything is in one place.
Standard, XL or Refillable?
| Type | Sizes | Pick it if… |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 4", 6", 8", 10", 12" | You want the proven default that matches your fan size. |
| XL (Extra Long) | 4", 6", 8" | You want more carbon and more airflow in the same duct size. The XL rates 21–43% more airflow than the Standard, so it's the one to choose when your fan is strong or you want it to last longer. |
| Refillable Kit | 4", 6", 8" | You'd rather refill the carbon than throw away the whole can. The kit includes an extra refill, a funnel and a scoop. |
What makes AC Infinity filters good
- Australian virgin RC412 carbon at 1200+ IAV. IAV (iodine adsorption value) measures how much a carbon can hold, and higher is better. RC412's fine pores trap odour molecules from a huge internal surface area.
- 38mm carbon bed. Deeper than many budget filters, so air spends longer in contact with the carbon.
- Reversible aluminium flanges. Air tends to wear one end of the carbon first. Flip the filter round partway through its life and you use the whole bed evenly.
- Rust-resistant galvanised steel mesh with a gunmetal finish, built for humid grow spaces.
- Washable pre-filter cloth included (two with XL and Refillable). It catches dust before it can clog the carbon.
Keep it going: cloths and refills
The cheapest way to make a carbon filter last is to look after its pre-filter. AC Infinity rates each cloth for about six months between washes, and keeping a spare means one can go on while the other dries. The cloths come in 2-packs for every filter size. If you run a Refillable kit, the 8lb (3.6kg) and 16lb (7.3kg) carbon refills use the same premium Australian charcoal as the filters:
| Refillable kit | 8lb refill | 16lb refill |
|---|---|---|
| 4" (AC-RCF4) | 2 refills | 4 refills |
| 6" (AC-RCF6) | 1 refill | 2 refills |
| 8" (AC-RCF8) | Not enough | 1 refill |
Not just for growers
A carbon filter takes smell out of moving air, which is useful in more places than you'd think:
- Grow tents for herbs, chillies, tomatoes and flowering houseplants
- Mushroom fruiting chambers, which have a surprisingly earthy aroma
- Drying rooms for herbs, chillies and flowers
- Fermentation and home-brew corners
- Kitchens, pet rooms and hobby spaces with paint, glue or resin smells (for odour only; a carbon filter is no substitute for proper fume extraction or a respirator)
Rose's Pro-Tip
"Clean pre-filter, happy carbon. Most 'dead' carbon filters aren't dead at all. Their pre-filter is clogged with dust, so the fan can't pull air through and the smell leaks out round the edges. Vacuum the cloth every few weeks and swap in the spare when it looks grey. And halfway through the filter's life, flip it end to end using the reversible flanges. It's a free extra few months."
How to choose a size
Match the filter's duct opening to your fan. AC Infinity's own tent guide is: 4" for 2×2ft to 2×4ft tents, 6" for 3×3ft to 4×4ft, 8" for 5×5ft to 4×8ft, 10" for about 8×8ft, and 12" for about 10×10ft. If your fan is strong for its size, step up to the XL. Ducting and the filter both slow a fan down, so a filter rated about 20% above your fan's free-flow figure will work better and last longer.

FAQ
Will it fit a fan that isn't AC Infinity?
Yes. The flanges are standard duct sizes, so any 4", 6", 8", 10" or 12" inline fan or ducting will connect.
Intake or exhaust?
Either. For exhaust (the usual setup), mount the filter inside the tent with the fan pulling air through it. For intake, slip the pre-filter cloth over the outside.
How long does the carbon last?
AC Infinity says the carbon in a Refillable kit lasts around one to two grow cycles, depending on fan speed and use. A clean pre-filter and humidity below about 80% make the biggest difference.
What's the black dust when it's new?
Carbon dust shaken loose in transit. It's normal and clears after the first run.
